About
the Artist...
Greg Hanlon of Encinitas, CA
After doodling in corporate meetings for years, Hanlon started drawing
seriously just four years ago. Okay, it doesn't pay the bills but he'll worry about that later.
People tell him, do what you love and the money will come.
Starting with his favorite vehicle - the woodie - Hanlon has
branched into classic American rides like the 57-64 Cadillacs, 1955-57 Chevy
Bel Airs, Thunderbirds, the Nash Metropolitan and beach-surf scenes! These classic cars
somehow wind up sitting comfortably on sand with palm trees.
As he sits at Cardiff
Reef or the Pannikin Coffee Shop, his usual outdoor studios, he tries to capture the
feeling of that warm, friendly stretch of sand or friendly atmosphere. The locals stop by and
check progress on the latest work. It's always good to see them.
He creates a drawing that is technically accurate,
but more than anything else, makes the viewer smile and hopefully say
"I wish I was there." (One drawing "Dano's
at Daybreak" makes people say "I want to go
there.")
These drawings try to capture a feeling. These cars are works of art and that
feeling comes alive on Bristol board. If you listen closely while looking, you can almost hear the waves in
the background and the AM radio softly playing.

The Art of My Children
My kids love to draw and paint. They will sit quietly for hours and
create. If you have kids, turn off the TV, put on some good music, break
out the art supplies and watch what happens.
